ABSTRACT

P3H2-Dependent Regulation of Glomerular Basement Membrane Homeostasis: Molecular Mechanisms, Functional Significance, and Therapeutic Perspectives

Liu Kim

ABSTRACT

The glomerular basement membrane (GBM) is a highly specialized extracellular matrix that provides structural support to the glomerular filtration barrier while contributing to selective filtration within the kidney. Preservation of GBM architecture depends not only on the synthesis of its major structural proteins but also on post-translational mechanisms that ensure proper collagen maturation, matrix assembly, and long-term stability. Among these regulatory factors, Prolyl 3-Hydroxylase 2 (P3H2) has emerged as an important mediator of collagen modification, influencing the organization and mechanical properties of basement membrane networks.
