ABSTRACT

Antepartum Haemorrhage (APH) is a major cause of maternal morbidity and perinatal mortality globally and is of serious concern in the developing world. We retrospectively analyzed the incidence of APH and evaluated its impact on fetal and maternal outcomes. The present investigation was undertaken at a tertiary care center attached to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh, Assam, India. Patients (18-35 years) were selected from all cases with minimum of 28 weeks of gestation presenting with APH. Incidence rate of APH was documented to be 1.72?counting for 128 cases during the study period. Anemia was observed in 92.96% of patients, with 0.7% and 30.46% incidence of maternal and fetal mortality, respectively. High incidence of APH and neonatal mortality are associated with poor nutritional status and lack of awareness. Hence, better antenatal services and patient awareness programmes can help to address many of the complications associated with APH.
