ABSTRACT
The aim of the research work is to investigate the antimicrobial activity of leaves extract of Phonies silvestries against the Urinary tract infecting bacteria like E. coli, Klebsiella, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Phoenix silvestries leave was collected and dried it under the shade. The 500 gm of dried leave was taken and crushed by hand operated crusher. The hydro alcoholic extraction of dried leaves powder was performed by maceration using 70:30 ratios of water and ethanol and the extract was dried at room temperature. The antibacterial activity of extract was determined by agar well diffusion method against E. coli, Klebsiella, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa which are the causative agents of Urinary tract infection. The result was compared with standard drug Gentamycin and the zone of inhibition of extract and Gentamycin was measured. The result shows that the extract of leaves of Phoenix silvestries has potent antibacterial activity against urinary tract infecting bacteria. Key word: - Urinary tract infection, Maceration, Antibacterial.
