Cystic Hygroma of Neck with Intraoral and Intrathoracic Extension: A Case Report

ABSTRACT
Anaesthetising an infant with a giant cervical lump, most commonly cystic hygroma, is a big challenge to the anaesthesiologist. Though 70 - 80% of cystic hygromas occur in the neck, in 2-3% of patients they extend in the mediastinum. Present case report reveals the problems faced perioperatively during management of a two months old male baby with huge swelling in left side of neck measuring 10x8 cm in size & diagnosed as cystic hygroma neck with intraoral & intrathoracic extension with respiratory distress taken for surgical resection by cervical approach which had to be converted into emergency thoracotomy.
